Healthy Cacao & Almond balls

18th November 2017

I first heard about this recipe when listening to a podcast of Liana Werner-Grey from Earth Diet on Hay Radio.

She took on a challenge to eat only natural ingredients for one year and to document the results.   From this the Earth Diet was created.

She had me hooked from the start. I love my chocolate and if there was anyway I could make it healthy (at least healthier!) sounded good to me.

I love this recipe for many reasons.  As long as you stick to the 3 main ingredients (Almond flour, Cacao Powder & Maple Syrup) you can put anything else you like in.  In this one there is peanut butter, however, you can easily leave that out and put in Dates or raisins if you prefer.

Takes about 10 minutes to make, I like to put them in the freezer and eat them cold.

Makes 10 balls

Ingredients:
1 cup of almond meal (you can also use any other nuts or hemp protein!)
1/4 cup of cacao powder
3 tablespoons of maple syrup or honey
2 tablespoons of water
4 tablespoons of peanut butter

Action:
1. In a bowl mix the cacao powder and almond meal together.
2. Add the maple syrup and water and stir until well combined.
3. Add 4 tablespoons of peanut butter.
4. Mix it together for a marble affect and then roll into balls.

+ TIP: You could use almond butter as an alternative to make Chocolate Almond Butter Balls.Ca
