5 things you need to do if you want to declutter
28th October 2017

As I am writing this I am hoping that no one will come and check my wardrobe because I find throwing things out hard. My husband does not. In fact, my ‘hoarding’ (his word) drives him mad. I think that ‘keeping it just in case..’ is what any sensible person would do. So, over the years, we have reach (somewhat) an agreement and I have designated area’s that I am able to ‘hoard’. My wardrobe is one of them.
Ask the tough questions.
When it comes to my clothes, I buy and buy and do not throw anything out. I have T-shirts that are no longer fit for purpose, yet, I always think of an excuse to keep them.
So, if you are like me, its time to do something about it.
Besides the cliché question of when you last wore something, you need to ask some tough questions, to help you scale back (be as honest as you can). Here are 5 things you need to do if you want to declutter – successfully:
- Is upkeep for this piece a pain? (i.e. does it ‘live’ in the laundry basket because you can’t be bothered to dry clean/hand wash/iron etc? Is all of the hassle worth it?).
- Is this something I ‘wish’ I would wear? (i.e. the leather trousers, mini dress etc?) or will I actually wear it?
- Do I need to lose weight to wear this and feel good in it?
- Does the the colour invigorate you?
If the answer to any of these is no, then you know what you have to do….
